Interested in giving the Swim Bike Run thing a go? Want to try a Tri?
Tralee Triathlon will be hosting the Tri Kingdom Come Sprint Triathlon on Sunday August 15th on Banna Strand. Full details are available at the link (click on the logo) below – check it out if you think you might have a crack at this reduced distance triathlon event.

If you dont have p…lans to cycle or enter the event I know Tralee Tri Club would be massively appreciative of any one who could spare some time in the 15th to assist in marshalling the event – if you think you might be able to lend a hand drop Gerry Geaney a line at glgeaney’at’eircom.net and he will fill you in on the details

Well – still got an appetite for road after the Ring of Kerry?
Looking for another challenge to take on?
Well here’s the next cycle that comes highly recommended by the club – the Trip to Tipp. The Club has had members participate the last two years and it comes well recommended as a well supported event with a very scenic route taking in the Glen of Aherlow and the Vee (on the longer route) as it makes it’s way through the Tipperary countryside.
It’s run by the Blazing Bikers/Blazing Saddles in aid of the NCBI and will run from the Anner Hotel, Thurles, Co. Tipperary on the 18th of July.
There’s several options available as regards routes including 20km, 60km, 100km and 180km offerings with registration open from 8am and depart times from 9.30am depending on route. Entry for the day is €40 for those presenting Cycling Ireland licences, €50 without.
Full details are available from http://www.bikerschallenge.com and I’ve mapped out the two longer routes below

Well done to Chain Gang CC member Ken Keohane on completion of the Iron Man France in Nice on Sunday.
Ken was faced with a race with more than two and a half thousand other competitors involving a 3.8km swim, a 180km bike course and to finish off the feat, a full marathon. Ken put all these to bed in a combined time of 13 hours 1minute and 12 seconds in what everyone would agree is a truly amazing feat of endurance.
Well done again Ken – Chain Gang CC IronMan

Some may have noticed some ‘issues’ with the website over the last day or so – someone was trying to push us from our corner of the www.
Well, our kung-fu is better than theirs and they forgot you’ll never beat the Irish Chain Gang

Well done to all who competed in this weekends Currow CC races.
The Chain Gang had several members out on the road yesterday with Donnacha Clifford & Sean Williams contesting the Drumm Cup A4 race, with Donnacha taking 3rd place and Sean putting in a valiant first time racing effort in the high paced and punchy event.
The previous evenings events saw club success also with Darragh Crowley, Marcus Fitzgerald and Barry Murphy on the Sliabh Luacra Time Trial which saw Marcus setting a happy mid season time, Darragh walk away with second in the A4 category, and Barry Murphy riding with the Earl & also Chain Gang member won the 40+ Time Trial!
So a very successful racing weekend for The Chain Gang!
Next on the menu – the Tour de Burren next Saturday.

Finally! The new kit design is done, dusted and put to bed!
Giordana will be doing our kit manufacturing this time round and have taken our existing design and made a bit of an evolution of it to result in the design below

There’s a bit more colour to the design and it should look very good on the road (though I know myself I’ll have to train harder to do it justice). There are also matching gloves and overshoes to go with the kit and the armwarmers will intgrate with the short sleeve jerseys i.e. they will have the same colour and art work as on the long sleeve design.
The current order is now gone to the manufacturers but in the Autumn (or when ever there is sufficient demand for it) further orders will be placed subject to meeting minimum number requirements (10 of each item type required).
Full pricing etc will be up on the Kit page in due course

Time to get your thinking caps on and scrabble to recruit your smartest friends – it’s table quiz time!
Sean Fuller and Betty’s Bar are hosting a table quiz night to help the club raise the funds required to finalise the current tandem project and allow us to purchase new race tandems (not the kind of machine that has a rear rack and panniers for packing picnics – these are serious speed machines) to make the club accessible for visually impaired cyclists.
The quiz will be held on March 25th in Betty’s Bar, Strand St., Tralee with entry at €40 for a table (4 persons) and events kicking off at 8.30pm.

Tandem Table Quiz - March 25th, 8.30pm, €40 Table of four
As Betty’s is a relatively compact venue, it’s recommended that those wishing to play arrive a bit early to ensure they get a table and even those who cannot attend on the night can donate towards the project – or buy a ticket for the raffle – by contacting Mary, Seán or any of the excellent support crew at Betty’s.

Hi Gang
Well you’re probably after noticing a new website and new address, thechaingang.cc (snazzy, I know). Looking for chaingangcycling.ie will soon be (or if you’re reading this, is) directed to this address.
It’s a work in progress right now but we hope that this new site will allow a much more flexible platform for us to embed event calendars, photos and video and tweak it as we want to get the best of it. The old website will still be there in the background while we get this one right but at its old long form address of chaingangcyclingtralee.wordpress.com
Bear with us while we get it right – it’ll be worth the wait.
