With the cycling season starting to move into full swing, we’re turning our attention to some club group events that will hopefully interest our membership

Ring of Kerry-18 June

Always a traditional route for our members whether done on the actual day in July or as a group at another time.

This year we aim to get as many members of the club as possible, out on the 18 June, to experience one of Irish cycling most famous routes.

We will divide our cyclists up into groups to suit all abilities and moods.

The plan is for a support vehicle to accompany the group, a meeting place for lunch at a mid-way point and a barbeque in the evening at the Meadowlands.

Start times to be confirmed.

Summer spin to Brandon-Date tbc

A Summer time spin out to the Brandon/Cloghane area in west Kerry.

This will be followed by a dinner/barbecue in one of the local hostelries.

Club members have an option of staying the night in the area or travelling home by bus.

Watch this space for further developments.

Summer fun cycle-Race and road bikes need not apply!

A back to basics cycle. Aimed for a sunny Sunday or bank holiday.

A 40-50 km route with an organised stop along the route.

The catch? Dig out that old mountain bike, fixy, hybrid or BMX and let’s get out and about like we did in the old days!

The Rockpedallers CC – Cashel

Next weekend 14-15 May the Rock Pedallers are coming to Tralee for the weekend. Their aim is to cycle the Conor Pass and Dingle/Castlegregory (short option) on Saturday. On the Sunday they would like to cycle with our 2 groups.

Something to bear in mind. Never a bad thing to make friends from clubs outside our own area. They have kindly offered to return the compliment should we ever want to take the club on the road for a weekend in the Casel area.

Touring club day out?

Just an idea I have been running with for the summer. A one-off spin or monthly summer rides.

A spin embracing the bicycle touring concept. It would work as a spin of 80 – 100 km spread over the full day (6-8 hours) taking in lots of bye roads, interesting places in the county and most importantly plenty of stops either side of a lunch break in a local hostelry.

If anyone fancies the idea let me know. I have a plan in mind. Just a fabulous sunny day and a date, then we can move on it.
