The Chain Gang CC operate 6 separate groups to cater for our cyclists differing abilities and situations along with our mentoring group.

The Chain Gang 30 + Group

30+

Average speed: 30-32 +kph
Distance: 70-160km
Skills: Improving climbing skills, increasing distance and average speed.

This group is for those who have an excellent level of fitness, are experienced in cycling in a group, who might be familiar or active in competition cycling and are up for longer spins at a higher pace.  The spins will start at around 70 to 80 km in the winter and work up to about 100-160km by the summer. Each ride will accommodate a coffee stop.

You can expect to be out with this group from 3-5 hours.

The Chain Gang 30 Group

This group is for those who have a good level of fitness, are experienced in cycling in a group, and are up for longer spins at a higher pace.  The spins will start at around 70km in the winter and work up to about 100-160km by the summer. Each ride will accommodate a coffee stop. You can expect to be out with this group from 3-5 hours.

The Chain Gang 28 Group

This group is for improving to strong riders who like a little bit more of a challenge and are comfortable riding in a group. Distances are longer and faster than the 26 group.

The Chain Gang 26 Group

This group is for improving to strong riders who like a little bit more of a challenge and are comfortable riding in a group. Distances are longer and the pace a bit faster than the 24 group.

The Chain Gang 24 Group

Average speed: 23-25kph
Distance: 65-120km
Skills: Group skills, increasing distance, climbing and average speed

For riders who have a feel for the sport and are confident on the bike. Are comfortable in a group and able to move efficiently for 1.5- 2 hours before a break. Spins will start at 60km in length and at a slightly faster pace than the Chain Gang 22 group.

The Chain Gang 22 Group

Distance: 40-70km

This group is aimed at members who are:

  • Progressing from the Chain Gang M Group
  • Former cyclists who have had a lengthy break and would like an introduction back into the sport
  • Cyclists recovering from injury and needing a steady workout
  • Cyclists looking for a steady workout option

The Chain Gang Mentoring Group

Average speed: 17-20kph
Distance: 20-55km
Skills: Group skills, gaining confidence, increased fitness, minimal climbing.
Time frame: 6 weeks commencing from early March to mid April each year.

For riders who are brand new to group cycling but with a half decent fitness level. Here cyclists will gain confidence in road and group skills as well as basic nutrition and maintenance tips. The aim is for Group M members to make a flawless transition to the 22 Group after the 6 weeks.
